Downdetector, a website that tracks online service disruptions, received numerous reports from users unable to connect to OpenAI's chatbot. The reports indicated that approximately 91% of users experienced issues, with 7% unable to access the website entirely, and the remainder encountering login problems. Frustrated users took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to voice their concerns about the ChatGPT outage.
OpenAI Addresses the Issue
OpenAI acknowledged the outage through its official status page. The company identified the problem as "increased latency and errors" affecting both ChatGPT and its associated APIs.
According to the OpenAI Status page, the service has since been restored, and the latency issues have been resolved. "Performance is now back to normal," the page stated.
The TOI Tech team independently verified the restoration by accessing ChatGPT through both the web interface and the mobile application. They confirmed that ChatGPT was functioning without any apparent problems.
