X Corp., formerly known as Twitter, has taken action against over 500,000 accounts in India for violating its platform policies. These bans, implemented between January 26 and February 25, target accounts involved in promoting child sexual exploitation, non-consensual nudity, and terrorism.
According to reports, X Corp. banned 506,173 accounts for offenses related to child sexual exploitation and non-consensual nudity. Additionally, 1,982 accounts were suspended for promoting terrorism. In total, 508,155 accounts were removed from the platform during this period.
The platform also received 14,421 complaints from Indian users through its grievance redressal mechanisms, with 41 requests specifically concerning account suspensions. X Corp. stated that after reviewing the specifics of the situation, they overturned only one of these account suspensions, while the remaining reported accounts remain suspended. Furthermore, the company received 71 requests related to general account inquiries during the reporting period.
This is not the first instance of X Corp. banning accounts for policy violations. Between December 26 and January 25, the platform banned approximately 231,215 accounts in India. During that same period, 1,945 accounts were banned for promoting terrorism.
To avoid account suspension on X, users should adhere to the platform's policies. Specifically, refrain from posting content related to child sexual exploitation and non-consensual nudity. By following these guidelines, users can maintain an active presence on the platform.
