Jasprit Bumrah immediately signaled his intent upon entering the Edgbaston Cricket Ground nets. With a focused demeanor, he swiftly prepared for what would become a vigorous session of fast bowling. His run-up was meticulously measured for a 20-minute, full-throttle burst. Despite the absence of Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Rishabh Pant, Bumrah relentlessly bowled to Sai Sudharsan, Ravindra Jadeja, and Karun Nair.
He challenged the batsmen with varied angles – around the wicket for left-handers and utilizing the crease's width for right-handers. Beyond his skill, his mental freshness stood out, highlighting the benefit of a three-day break from bowling. The 31-year-old bowled alongside Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna, forming a potent trio.
While Siraj honed his defensive techniques with batting coach Sitanshu Kotak, Bumrah explored various options. From side-arm deliveries to slow bowling and throwdowns, his focus remained unwavering. Even while awaiting his turn to bat, he engaged in shadow practice, gradually gaining confidence and ending the day on a high note.
Meanwhile, Kuldeep Yadav diligently worked on both his batting and bowling. He actively sought feedback from the support staff and teammates, experimenting with angles and lengths. The dry Birmingham weather could potentially favor his inclusion in the second Test.
Kuldeep's commitment extends to his batting, with extensive hours dedicated to improving his skills under head coach Gautam Gambhir and Sitanshu Kotak. For the past 18 months, he has worked tirelessly to contribute meaningfully with the bat.
Following two days of intense practice, the team will take a break before regrouping on June 30. The bowlers will have an opportunity to rest, while the suspense surrounding Bumrah's availability will linger for at least 48 hours.
