Sunil Gavaskar, the legendary Indian cricketer, has publicly condemned the proliferation of fake quotes falsely attributed to him on various sports websites and social media platforms.
*Sunil Gavaskar urges fans to verify information.*In a video message shared on his official Instagram account, Gavaskar directly addressed the issue, refuting the false claims and urging fans to exercise caution when encountering quotes attributed to him online.
"Over the last few months, it has come to my notice that a lot of sports websites and individual accounts have been attributing comments and quotes to me that I've never made," Gavaskar stated in the video. He emphasized the importance of verifying information before accepting it as truth. "I request everybody to verify, fact-check, and not to believe everything that they read, particularly coming from some of these individual accounts and sports websites. God bless you all.”
Gavaskar, who is currently in England providing commentary for the ongoing Test series between India and England, expressed his concern about the widespread circulation of these fabricated remarks.
His statement comes after several alleged "quotes" were attributed to him following India’s first Test loss, particularly concerning Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah's performances. According to Gavaskar, many platforms twisted his commentary for engagement.
