Yashasvi Jaiswal, the dynamic Indian opener, is on the cusp of achieving a remarkable feat. He is just 97 runs shy of becoming the quickest Indian batsman to reach 2,000 Test runs. This puts him in contention to eclipse the long-standing record held by Sunil Gavaskar for 49 years. India is scheduled to play England in the second Test at Edgbaston starting July 2.

Jaiswal's consistent performance has been a significant advantage for India as they navigate a complex transition phase in Test cricket. He recently demonstrated his ability with a superb century in the first Test at Headingley. Unfortunately, his efforts were not enough to stop India from losing by five wickets. Despite setting a difficult target of 371 runs for England, India was taken by surprise by the composed chase led by Ben Duckett, Zak Crawley, and Joe Root. This resulted in England taking a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
Jaiswal's individual form remains a key source of optimism for India as they aim to recover in Edgbaston. He has amassed 1,903 runs in just 20 Tests, with an impressive average of 52.86.
Currently, Sunil Gavaskar holds the record for the fastest Indian to 2,000 Test runs. He reached this milestone in his 23rd Test in 1976. Gavaskar became the first cricketer to score 10,000 Test runs. Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag follow on the list, achieving the 2,000-run mark in their 25th Tests.
With his stylish strokeplay and remarkable composure, Jaiswal has the opportunity to surpass these legends. This would provide India with a significant boost in a crucial Test match.
