Shamar Joseph Answers Critic with Four-Wicket Haul Against Australia

Before the first Test between Australia and West Indies, Ian Healy criticized Shamar Joseph's performance. Joseph responded by taking four wickets, including Konstas, on the opening day. Despite Joseph's efforts and Seales' contribution, West Indies struggled, ending the day at 57/4. Joseph previously troubled Australia in January, taking 7/68 in a historic West Indies victory.

Shamar Joseph, the West Indies seamer, responded emphatically to pre-match criticism from Australian legend Ian Healy with a fiery performance in the first Test. Days after Healy dismissed his bowling as "crap," Joseph claimed 4/46, including a crucial early wicket, rattling the Australian batting lineup.

Healy's comments, made on SEN radio ahead of the Test, were prompted by Joseph's on-field exchange with Sam Konstas during the match. Healy stated, "OK Shamar, well you've delivered crap all year. So he better improve, that's what I'm saying. 'He's got real trouble. 'You're not Curtly Ambrose, champ."

However, Joseph let his bowling do the talking on the opening day in Bridgetown. He dismissed Konstas, trapping him leg before wicket after an appeal review confirmed the ball was heading for the stumps.

The dismissal of Konstas was the first blow in a devastating spell by Joseph, who helped restrict Australia to 180 runs. Jayden Seales also contributed significantly, supporting Joseph's efforts.

Despite Joseph's heroics, the West Indies struggled to capitalize, finishing the day at 57/4. The series marks Australia's first Test tour to the West Indies since 2015.

This isn't the first time Joseph has troubled the Australian batsmen. In January 2024, during only his second Test, he claimed six wickets in a remarkable spell, contributing to the West Indies' victory by 8 runs at the Gabba. He finished with figures of 7/68, securing the West Indies' first win on Australian soil in 27 years.
